Last night there was an incident on Oudepost farm just outside Darling. 4 Men entered an elderly couple’s (Ian Benhardi (74), and his wife Jean) home through a window around 11:30 p.m.

There may have been a 5th person who was outside. The attackers did not use a recognisable language and were probably foreigners. They were armed with a stick and a knife and threatened the couple with the knife.

The attackers knew what they were doing and took items like cash, cell phones, and jewelry very quickly.

After about 15 to 20 minutes, the 4 received a call after which they immediately fled. The elderly man was then able to get his hands loose and get help from the main home, after which the owner called the farm guard and security. Fortunately, the pair was not injured.

This is not the first incident on our farms, nor will it be the last. Security must be everyone’s first priority and must be sharpened today. Listen to your dogs and alarms, gain confidence in your instincts I get help before it’s too late. Keep your communication tools at hand at all times and do not be ashamed to ask for help.

We will not stop crime, but if we work together, we will move organized crime out of our area.
