A man was stabbed several times and his wife held at knife-point during a farm attack in Hekpoort on Sunday morning.

According to Gert du Plessis of Oostermoed security services, the husband was attacked by a former worker and two accomplices around 11:00 on Sunday morning while checking on his cattle.

“The three suspects, armed with knives, overpowered him and he was stabbed in the back and cut several times. They left him lying on the ground and went to the house where they grabbed his wife and held her at knife-point. The wounded husband managed to get to a nearby neighbour who called us for help,” Du Plessis said.

Response vehicles were on the scene soon after and when the attackers saw them, they fled into the bushes.

“We gave chase and followed them into the bushes. Our K9 unit caught one of the attackers who admitted that he was at the house with his two accomplices. Items belonging to the couple were found in his possession. He was arrested and handed over to the Hekpoort police. The husband and wife were transported to hospital by ambulance,” Du Plessis said.

“The husband is in a stable condition. The wife was not injured but is seriously traumatised.”

The police are following up on leads and more arrests are expected soon
