The Krugers were attacked on April 13. Mr. Gert Kruger (81) was attacked with a crowbar. His daughter, Marietjie, was shot and his wife, Rita and daughter were unhurt in the attack.

Mishack Dhavaa, Patrick Tsetsi Moima, William Rasta Makobe, Robert Tshabalala and Vuzi Sithole appeared in the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court on house burglary and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

Besides Makobe, the other suspects received R500 bail each.

Several farmers attended the court session to support the Kruger family and oppose bail.

Farmers and Groblersdal Rural Safety are concerned that the suspects will flee and will not attend their next court dates.

Their concerns follow many suspects who have been assaulted at farm attacks and just didn’t turn up for their next appearances.
Although warrants were issued for their arrest, the suspects were never heard of again.

This causes some of the cases to remain unresolved, such as the farm attack on Mr. Herman Botha.

Mr. Botha died on August 6, 2017 after he and his family were attacked by eight men on their farm on the Groblersdal-Middelburg road.

Four suspects were charged with murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances for the incident and R1 000 bail was granted for each of them.

The community was later shocked after it became known that one of the suspects was involved in the farm attack on 6 February 2018 against Wilma Liebenberg. He was shot dead during this farm attack.

The farmers’ fears were realized on April 9, 2018, when only two of the suspects turned up for their court proceedings. This has meant that the case has not yet been finalized.
